Lab

LandLab

Through a critical and investigative attitude, we analyze and integrate practical, theoretical, social and environmental aspects and issues into our proposals. Our work is based on an understanding of construction technologies and traditions that we develop to adapt to the specific conditions of a situation, in order to fulfill the needs of users, inhabitants and clients.

We are interested in facilitating and improving the conditions of everyday life through what we call ‘technologies of affordance’, which are the means we develop to produce the experiences and atmospheres that we conceive or strive for. These means are always informed by and based on clarity, simplicity in the details and ease of construction, aiming at providing warmly functional, non-aggressive and often open or flexible solutions and spaces that are both respectful with the environment and in permanent exchange with it.

LandLab also develops research projects related to: the land and the territory, construction technologies and traditions, the role of architecture and other spatial practices in the production of spaces for living together, or the shifting conditions of public space in today’s society.

LandLab works also by initiating and managing collaborative projects together with other private and public partners. We are interested in issues such as the development of the hinterland and the renovation of the Swedish suburbs, and we work actively by identifying opportunities and developing ideas in order to attract both partners and funding, as well as the inhabitants of the places we work in.

LandLab is based on the combined competences, motivations and visions of its four founding partners, Alberto Altés, Karin Berggren, Josep Garriga and Sergi Serrat, who contribute strategic, technical, and social skills, many years of experience in architecture, urban design, research and education – in both local and international environments - and a creative, careful and committed approach informed by their social and environmental motivations.
